Should you add your wife or your husband's name to the deed to your home?

Should you add your wife or your husband's name to the deed to your home?

Attorney Tom Olsen: Chrissy, here's a text from Sarah in Chuluota and she says that her home is in her husband's name only, should she add her name to the deed for the purpose of avoiding probate? Sarah, the answer to that is yes. Most married couples own everything jointly. If you've got a long-running marriage, there's no reason why your name should not be on the deed to the home as well.

Sarah, we do suggest that with your husband's permission and consent, we need a signature of course, we would add your name to the deed. We would identify you as a married couple and that way, if one of you passes away the home would automatically belong to the survivor. No probate required.

Sarah, we'd be pleased to assist you with that deed. It's not very expensive and it will be well worth it. Sarah, we'd love to take care of you at the Olsen Law Group in Orlando.
